Choosing the right location for your MoorMesh camera is crucial for reliable security and minimizing false alarms. While the Reolink Go Plus is fully weatherproof and can be mounted anywhere, we strongly recommend mounting your primary camera inside the cabin of your boat.

Here is why an internal cabin mount is the most effective setup for MoorMesh.

The Benefits of an Internal Mount

Mounting the camera inside the cabin provides several distinct advantages over an external deck or mast mount:

Fewer False Alarms: The biggest challenge with boat security is the constant movement of the environment. Cameras mounted on deck are frequently triggered by passing boats, waves, birds, or loose rigging moving in the wind. Inside the cabin, the environment is static. If the camera detects a person inside your locked cabin, it is almost certainly a genuine intrusion.
Protection from the Elements: While the camera is weatherproof, keeping it inside protects the lens from salt spray, rain, and condensation, ensuring you always have a clear view when an alert is triggered.
Maximum Siren Deterrent: The Reolink camera features a built-in siren that sounds when an intruder is detected. In the confined space of a boat cabin, this siren is piercingly loud and highly disorienting. If the camera is mounted externally up a mast or on a rail, the sound dissipates quickly in the open air and is far less effective as a deterrent.

False Alarm! Understanding the Alert Grace Period and Escalation Flow

Overview

MoorMesh is designed to alert you the moment your camera detects motion — but it is also designed to stay quiet when the detection was a false alarm. The grace period is the window of time between your camera firing and your club or harbour being notified. During this window, you are the only person who receives a notification. If you recognise the alert as a false alarm and cancel it, nothing further happens. If you do not cancel within the grace period, the alert escalates automatically.

Understanding this flow is the most important thing you can do to get the most out of MoorMesh and to avoid unnecessary disturbance to your club.

MoorMesh uses Telegram to deliver private, real-time alert notifications directly to your phone. When your camera detects motion, the MoorMesh bot sends you a personal Telegram message containing the boat name, the type of event, and a one-tap Cancel — it was me! button. This allows you to dismiss a false alarm instantly, before your club or harbour is notified.

Linking your Telegram account takes under two minutes and requires only the free Telegram app. This article covers how to link your account for the first time, how to verify the link is working, how to re-link if the connection is lost, and how to unlink if you no longer wish to use Telegram notifications.
